Newcastle Greeting Card

The magnificent, four bridges that span the River Tyne are for me the highlight of my design of Newcastle and a pleasure to draw. I love the individual character of each bridge and how one relates to another, like people standing together in a row. Feminine curves and masculine columns contrast but make the perfect fit, above which soars the iconic Angel of the North. Newcastle's cultural heritage, whether it's the cinema, theatre or China Town is a key part of the fabric of this design. I didn't know that Newcastle has a tunnel running under the city, from the Town Moor down to the River Tyne, until I drew it! The cultural venues of the Sage and Baltic in neighbouring Gateshead are also included in the design as is the big event of the year... the Great North Run. Two Magpies, flying for joy above the city of Newcastle, reference the much loved football team, the big fellow above the hallowed ground is easy to find but can you spot his little feathered friend?
