Here We Go Hong Kong!

I travelled the scenic route to Hong Kong … via Dubai and Singapore to be precise. Weaving my way around the world as I meet with retailers with whom I collaborate to create Cityscape product ranges for their stores is something I’ve been doing several times a year for a long time.  Given that I’m far too nosy to sleep on a plane, it’s not as glamorous as it sounds.  Juggling jet lag and doing business on the hoof is not always ideal but it’s what I have to manage.

I arrived in Hong Kong in one piece and set up my booth for the Hong Kong Gift Fair where for 4 days I meet buyers from all over the globe looking for the next big or brightest thing. I love the fact I can be talking to someone from Singapore in one meeting and Santiago the next.

One of my favourite parts of the day is the walk home to Sai Ying Pun. A chilled out part of town, where shops selling dried fish and bustling Chinese street food cafes sit side by side with cool coffee bars.

Sai Ying Pun is where I hang out after the show. Most of my free time is spent getting pummelled by a Chinese or Thai masseur, which helps me overcome my jet lag.  I love the fresh food served in the little local restaurants but my guilty pleasure is Dan Tart: the Hong Kong equivalent of a Portuguese Tart or English Custard Tart.  They are to die for and therefore it’s no surprise that they are centre stage in my Hong Kong Dim Sum design which has been made into a great product range and sold in beautiful shops here in Hong Kong.

The show ends tomorrow and onwards with an overnight flight and most likely no sleep, to Japan. Before I left I was fortunate enough to have a moonlight walk home along the waterfront on Hong Kong Island. Goodnight and Goodbye Hong Kong!
