Derby Postcard

Derby was a delight to draw as it gave me the opportunity to find out more about a city which was close to where I lived as a child but I knew little about. I love the celebration of the new such as the Museum & Art Gallery, which commissioned me to create this design. The industrial heritage of Derby is equally important and so the Silk Mill, bridges and Rolls Royce engineered airplane and trains have their place in my illustration too. The unique culture of the East Midlands is celebrated in the design and something I know only too well having been born and bred in neighbouring Nottingham. I ate cobs as a child, my dad drank real ale and my mum would say "Ey Up Me Duck" to friends and family as it is indeed a term of endearment in my beloved East Midlands.
